The KOHLER kitchen design team finds inspiration in countless places, objects, and stories-across the globe and right in their backyards. So when Manchester United launched its 2019-2020 away kit, it was no surprise the team immediately started thinking about how the look could translate into a new kitchen.

A Neutral Color Palette

At first glance, the away kit shows a neutral, warm color palette. Yet a closer look reveals unassuming color tonality shifts including a geometric mosaic-inspired pattern. Our designers were inspired by this natural, condensed pattern play and selected ANN SACKS® Rythme Mosaics in Cobble to create a unique backdrop that’s eye-catching without overpowering the surroundings.

Embracing Scandinese Design

To create a highly efficient and functional kitchen layered with warm and thoughtful moments, the team drew on concepts from Scandinese design-a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian influences that encompasses a warm yet minimalist aesthetic. With a combination of wood and marble counters, wood floors and wood cabinets, the kitchen highlights the beauty of natural materials and has an authentic and inviting feel.

Modern Simplicity and Functionality

With careful product selection, the team mirrored the functionality and warmth of theteam’s uniform in this small, minimalist urban apartment. The Matte Black Sensate® faucet features touchless technology and multiple sprays, simplifying everyday kitchen tasks. And the stainless steel Strive® undermount sink provides ample workspace along with convenient accessories.

Thoughtfully Curated

The completed kitchen tells a story of modern simplicity and attention to detail. The light fixture’s organic movement mimics the backsplash tile’s motion and helps visually break up the large-scale blocks of cabinets, open shelving and windows. Its Matte Black finish—also seen on the Sensate faucet—gives a nod to the city of Manchester’s industrial heritage. Throughout the space, thoughtfully curated decor placed on the open shelving and countertop adds the finishing touch—enhancing the overall concept of layered textures and building on the movement and subtle gesture of the kit’s pattern.

Additional Kit Inspiration

Our bathroom design team also found inspiration in Manchester United’s kit design. See how it brought the dynamic red and black colors from the team’s home kit to life while incorporating recycled materials and honoring the city of Manchester’s industrial heritage.
