Who says black has to be basic? With the release of the 2019/20 third kit, the Manchester United revisited an all-black styling for the first time in two years. This bold choice was the perfect inspiration for the Kohler bathroom design team, who used it as the model for a striking powder room space.
Blending history with trends
The lush floral pattern of the 2019/20 third kit is derived from the Lancashire rose, taken from the 1909 badge worn by Manchester United players in their first Cup Final victory 110 years ago. When combined with modern black tones, the historic detail presented our design team with a host of exciting creative opportunities. Building on that vibrant fusion of old and new, we balanced classic, organic florals with minimalist architecture trends, heightening the dramatic impact.
Small space possibilities
The close quarters of a powder room are the perfect environment for bold choices, and Kohler designers seized the moment. Knowing a smaller space can more easily lend itself to dramatic material and finish selections, our team paired the Veil® wall-hung toilet and pedestal sink in glossy Black Black™ with the Purist® faucet collection in Matte Black, creating a compelling contrast and boosting tactile interest. The wall-mount construct and sleek silhouettes of both the Veil fixtures and the Purist faucet save valuable space, once again making them ideal for the tighter room size.
The power of a dark palette
Our team wanted to embrace the drama of the noir tones, while taking care to preserve a genuine feeling of warmth. Because the palette can naturally read as heavy, we infused the design with other dynamic features: mixtures of interesting patterns, fixtures with organic silhouettes and the pairing of high-gloss and matte finishes. To help achieve this balance, our designers selected ANN SACKS® Savoy Mosaic Arrowhead tile in Ibushi. Its metallic quality complements the variance of finishes in the fixtures and the contrast in the wallpaper’s floral color saturation. The resulting mood is modern and mysterious, with a true richness woven throughout.
